We’re Listening to You—Here’s How We’re Updating Our Knowledge Toggles

We’re always iterating, and the knowledge toggles in our product are a great example of how your feedback shapes what we build. In our recent product update and feedback session, we took a closer look at how this feature is working for you—and where it can get better.
What are the current knowledge toggles?
Our toggles let you decide how Storytell responds based on three modes:
Personal Collection When you want focused, personal answers, this mode keeps responses limited to what you’ve uploaded to your Collections.
Dynamic (Public + Personal) This blends your data with public knowledge for responses that bring together the best of both worlds—a mix of grounded knowledge and expansive ideas.
Public Knowledge When you’re exploring broader ideas or trends, this mode pulls from public knowledge alone, leaving your data untouched.
What We Heard from You
You told us where the toggles could do more to meet your needs:
Clarity over complexity We heard that the three buttons feel disconnected and don’t make it obvious that they’re part of a spectrum.
Terminology that works for you Some labels, like "Dynamic," didn’t clearly explain what they do. You want terms that match how you think about your work.
A better way to see the range A slider came up as a possible solution to visually represent moving from personal to public knowledge, showing that these aren’t isolated options—they’re points on a continuum.
Citable and non-citable knowledge This idea excited us and you: differentiating between public knowledge you can cite and creative ideas that are more exploratory. While this isn’t live yet, it’s something we’re working toward.
How We’re Acting on Your Feedback
We’re starting small but thinking big. Here’s what’s in motion:
Reworking labels Expect labels like “Dynamic” to evolve into clearer, more descriptive terms.
Exploring interface options Whether it’s a slider, toggles, or a dropdown, we’re testing ways to make the spectrum easy to navigate.
Planning for public knowledge levels The idea of separating citable and non-citable knowledge is on our radar as a future update. This would make it easier for you to choose exactly what kind of information you want to work with.
We’re committed to making the knowledge toggles as intuitive and powerful as possible. Your feedback helps us prioritize what’s most important, and we’re excited to roll out updates that reflect what you’ve told us.
Got more ideas? We’re all ears. Let us know how we can make this feature work even better for you.
