New in Storytell: Intelligent scope management, Concepts, and smoother knowledge workflows

During this week’s engineering demo, our engineering team shared updates on Storytell’s new scope management, system-generated concepts, asset and concept navigation, improved credit visibility, and enhanced user interface features. These additions make working with your knowledge base more streamlined, powerful, and transparent.

Intuitive scope management: Everything in, until you decide

Storytell now puts even more control in your hands with an improved scope picker right in the prompt bar. By default, all your uploaded assets and generated concepts are included in scope, so you can query your knowledge base without extra steps. When you want to focus on specific files or ideas, the new scope manager lets you quickly add or remove them, search instantly, and differentiate assets from concepts by color—blue for concepts, purple for files.

Importantly, Storytell’s new @mention system makes referencing specific assets or concepts easier than ever: Mentioned items in your prompt automatically adjust your chat’s scope. This two-way binding means your references and results are always in sync. Users can now move seamlessly between broad exploration and targeted deep dives, without ever losing sight of what’s included in each query context.

Automated concepts reveal new connections

When you upload documents, Storytell automatically analyzes and extracts key themes, surfacing new “concepts” across your data—think ideas, topics, or recurring subjects—without any manual tagging required. These concepts are presented alongside your files throughout the app and help organize, search, and scope your knowledge. Because they are system-generated and reflective of patterns connecting your assets, concepts can’t be directly edited yet.

Each concept includes a name, summary, and description, and future updates may let you explore relationships between concepts visually in a graph-style view. Concepts help reveal underlying structure in your information that might otherwise be missed, and make it easy to filter or query across multi-file themes.

Manage your knowledge with new asset and concept panels

Navigating your knowledge base just got easier. The new sidebar now includes dedicated panels for both assets and concepts. You can instantly search, browse, and manage files, with new bulk actions that allow for quick deletion of multiple items. This is a big leap from earlier versions, simplifying cleanup and helping keep your workspace organized.

Concepts are listed in their own panel, making discovery and navigation of generated ideas fast and intuitive. Additional actions—like graph navigation—are planned, but users can already benefit from this consolidated view.

Transparent credit tracking and usage breakdown

Understanding your resource consumption is now front and center. For every interaction, Storytell shows precisely how many credits have been consumed, and you can access breakdowns showing which operations or tools (like specific AI models or web search) used what amount. This transparency empowers you to optimize usage and prevents surprises, with feedback on balances and credit status delivered in real time. Plans are in place to further streamline purchasing and credit management in future releases.

Looking forward

These updates represent a significant phase in Storytell’s development. The combination of smarter scope controls, automatically detected concepts, efficient bulk actions, and clear credit transparency positions Storytell as a powerful knowledge engine ready for teams and organizations that value clarity from their unstructured data. Users now navigate and explore data more fluidly—and can increasingly shape exactly how that workflow fits their daily tasks and research.
