New in Storytell: Authentication fixes, Assets table upgrades, and PDF sharing
October 3, 2025

During this week’s engineering demo, Andi shared three important updates: a permanent fix for long-standing authentication issues, usability improvements to the assets table, and the introduction of shareable PDF links for artifacts. These changes focus on reliability, quality of life, and easier ways to share content from Storytell.
Reliable sessions with authentication fixes
We’ve resolved the authentication issues that occurred when tabs were left open for long periods. Previously, background refreshes of the authentication session would sometimes fail if a tab was inactive or suspended by the browser. This led to unexpected errors when returning to a tab after a while—especially frustrating during live demos.
With the new fix, session refreshes now behave consistently, so tabs will stay active and stable even after being idle. Users should no longer encounter random failures when switching back to Storytell after extended inactivity.
Assets table improvements
Managing large sets of assets is now smoother thanks to several usability enhancements:
- Sticky top bar and bulk actions: The top bar now stays visible as you scroll, making it easier to apply filters, labels, or bulk changes without losing your place.
- Bulk label updates: When multiple assets are selected, applying a label now updates all selected assets—not just the one clicked.
- Partial selection indicators: Checkboxes now show a partially filled state when only some of the selected assets share a label. This makes it clearer what’s applied and lets you decide whether to add or remove labels across the full selection.
These improvements streamline bulk editing workflows and bring more consistency to how selections behave across the platform.
Shareable PDF links for artifacts
We’re introducing the ability to generate shareable PDF links directly from artifacts. A new “Share PDF” button copies a unique link to your clipboard, letting you share artifact content outside of Storytell. Once generated, the same link can be reused instead of creating a new one each time.
This feature is the first step toward richer sharing workflows. In the future, we plan to let users share content natively inside Storytell—keeping collaboration within the platform—while PDFs provide a simple way to start sharing today.
