In this week’s engineering demo, March 8th, we shared a series of updates designed to make Storytell more intuitive and efficient for you. Here’s what’s new:
- Upcoming Chrome Extension with enhanced interactions and thread handling
- Thread attachments, enabling seamless one-off interactions.
- @mentions enhancements, allowing spaces in searches and adding breadcrumbs.
- UI improvements, including vertical resizing of sections in the left sidebar.
A smarter Chrome Extension experience (coming soon)
Andi, our senior frontend engineer, shared a preview of our upcoming Storytell Chrome Extension to help you work more smoothly and efficiently. Here’s what’s coming:
- Collection switcher – Choose where your chats are saved for better organization.
- Thread attachments – Chat with a webpage without needing to save it permanently.
- Thread persistence – If you revisit a webpage, your previous conversation will be right there.
Our Gen 1 Chrome Extension is sunsetting on March 15, and we want to ensure you have a better alternative. These improvements aim to reduce friction and create a more seamless experience.
Thread attachments: One-off conversations made easier
If you need to chat about a webpage without the need to save it permanently, thread attachments make it easy. Aaron, our principal software engineer, explained how this upcoming feature works:
- When you chat with a webpage using the Chrome Extension, its content is temporarily attached to the thread.
- The content isn’t searchable or stored in your knowledge base—it only exists within that specific thread.
- If you want to keep referencing the webpage, you can still save it as an asset.
This feature will give you more flexibility, letting you interact with content without unnecessary steps.
@mentions: Smoother search and better visibility
Andi also shared the improved @mentions to make referencing files and Collections easier:
- You can now type spaces when searching without the pop-up disappearing.
- Breadcrumbs have been added to show exactly where an asset or collection is located.
Vertical resizing for better navigation
You now have more control over how you navigate Storytell with resizable sections in the left sidebar.
- Recent chats and collections now have independent scrolling.
- You can resize sections to adjust your workspace as needed.
This update adds flexibility to how you organize and access your content.
