Building better experiences: A sneak peek at refined error messages and our upcoming prompt library
April 4, 2025

In this week’s engineering demo, April 4th, our engineering team shared updates on two key areas that enhance reliability and ease of use within Storytell: improved error messages and prompt library updates. These advancements are designed to not only resolve technical glitches more transparently but also to empower users—new and experienced alike—to make the most of our platform.
Improved error messages for smoother user experience
At Storytell, we understand that even the most robust systems can encounter hiccups. During the demo, Aaron, our principal software engineer, walked us through a significant enhancement aimed at addressing this very challenge. When Storytell encounters an issue—whether it’s hitting a service quota or an unexpected bug—the system now provides clear, humanized error messages rather than leaving users guessing why a process might have stalled.

What’s new?
Aaron highlighted that error messages have traditionally been a source of frustration, especially when the platform appears to “hang” without any clear feedback. With this update, error handling has been rethought entirely. The system now detects issues in real time and delivers messages that not only indicate the error but also offer context, helping users understand the “why” behind the problem. This means that if a prompt fails to process correctly or an external service limit is reached, the feedback is immediate and informative.

Benefits for users
- Transparency: Clear error messages remove the ambiguity surrounding system glitches. Users no longer have to wonder if their request is still processing or if something has gone wrong.
- Faster resolution: With actionable error details, users can quickly decide whether to retry their request or seek assistance. This reduces downtime and helps maintain workflow continuity.
- Enhanced trust: By communicating issues in plain language, Storytell reinforces a commitment to reliability and user satisfaction. When you know what’s happening behind the scenes, you can work with greater confidence.
This update isn’t just about technical improvements—it’s about building a more supportive experience that keeps your productivity front and center.
Prompt library updates to empower creative exploration
Alongside the error handling improvements, Andi, our senior frontend engineer, presented updates to our upcoming prompt library—an enhancement that has been long requested by users. The prompt library update is set to transform how users engage with Storytell’s resources by making it easier to find and share effective prompts.

The updated prompt library now includes a shared Collection feature that curates popular and useful prompts into a central hub. The new design enables quick filtering and a more intuitive browsing experience, which can be particularly beneficial for those who are just getting started.

Benefits for users
- Streamlined access: New users can dive right in without the steep learning curve. The shared Collection means that you have a repository of effective prompts at your fingertips.
- Enhanced discoverability: With improved filtering and categorization, finding the right prompt is now faster and more intuitive. Whether you’re working on a specific project or experimenting with creative ideas, the updated library makes it easier to pinpoint what you need.
- Community-driven insights: By incorporating prompts that have been vetted and used by the community, the library becomes a living resource that evolves with user feedback. This means you’re always accessing the most relevant and effective content.
- Encourages experimentation: A well-organized prompt library invites users to explore different approaches and ideas, fostering creativity and innovation across the board.
These updates not only resolve technical issues more transparently but also empower you to explore and experiment with greater ease.
Stay tuned for more innovations as we continue to listen, learn, and evolve based on your feedback.
